FAQ
+ What is your opinion on abortion?
We are faith-based but we acknowledge that we cannot impose our worldview and values on others. In Canada, women have the option to terminate a pregnancy and have legal access to abortion. Our goal is not to change laws or limit abortion access but to care for the women who seek support at our affiliated centres.
SFPO is pro-women and pro-information. We believe in giving value to and caring for pregnant women . We do this through the provision of practical information and compassionate support.
Some women with an unexpected pregnancy feel like they have no other choice but abortion. We believe every woman deserves to understand all her options and also have access to alternatives to an unwanted abortion.
Our goal is to provide a safe place for women and men experiencing the challenge of an unexpected pregnancy to work through their unique pregnancy situation and empower them to make an informed decision. We believe the most helpful thing we can do is provide a safe place where fears, pressures, values, and beliefs can be voiced, and ultimately a decision can be made – from a place of security and hope, not fear.
+ Is the information shared by SFPO medically accurate?
Yes. The primary resource used by PCC-affiliated centres is “Abortion Adoption Parenting,” a medically accurate and evidence-informed booklet. This resource has been reviewed by 45 specialized practitioners, including perinatal nurses, family physicians, obstetricians, gynecologists, medical ethicists, psychologists, and social workers from across Canada.
+ Does SFPO prevent accessing from abortions?
No. SFPO respects a woman’s right to make her own decision and provide her with medically accurate information on all three options: abortion, adoption, and parenting.
If a client chooses to pursue an abortion, the centre will not mislead or obstruct this decision. If a client requests help in obtaining an abortion, she is advised to consult her healthcare professional. She is also encouraged to return for post- abortion support, if desired.
+ If you don’t refer for abortion, why do you give information on all three options: abortion, adoption, parenting?
There are actually very few places that a woman with an unexpected pregnancy can go where she will be given accurate, neutral information on all three options and the time to talk and work through all the emotions and thoughts she may be experiencing. Many clients have shared that they didn’t understand what all their options were, what was involved with each option, and that they felt pressured to make a decision.
We believe that every individual in Canada challenged by an unexpected pregnancy should have access to accurate information, compassionate support, and a safe place to make a decision.
+ What type of training is provided to SFPO staff and volunteers?
All personnel working with clients learn accurate information about the options available to women facing a pregnancy decision: abortion, adoption, and parenting. The client care training also includes such topics as understanding the client (e.g., possible abuse, impoverishment, mental health, cross-cultural sensitivity), trauma-informed care, understanding crisis, pregnancy loss, and healthy relationships.
+ What are the terms of your private policy?

Abortion Disclaimer
Our counsel is that abortion compounds rather than solves the problems associated with a crisis pregnancy.
